How do you play the jew's harp?
Put the lips on the two metal shanks to seal them well. Do not bite on the shanks, otherwise the spring cannot vibrate.
The spring must swing freely and not get caught on the teeth or lips. The hand holding the jew's harp must not touch the spring.
Now use the index finger to make the spring vibrate. To do this, press the spring slowly into the mouth with the finger and then let it go. Press the bow lightly against the teeth so that it does not hit them.
The instrument can be plucked in both directions. When playing, the resonance chamber is formed by the mouth cavity. By changing this cavity, the overtones are produced, as if one were to "say" the umlauts A, E, I, O, U, without a voice. The jew's harp produces the corresponding tone.
