Grimms Step counting rods

The step counting rods from Grimm give the child access to the number range up to 100. Thanks to the glazed rods, the numbers can be experienced sensually. The abstract numbers are illustrated by comparing the lengths of the rods.

When calculating with even numbers, the correct result can be checked immediately. The box with large and small step counting rods enables the child to understand quantity and size relationships. Spatial thinking is promoted and developed. The box contains 100 rods made of lime wood, ascending from 1-10. For counting, comparing, calculating and grasping the number range up to 100. Stowed safely in the oiled wooden frame.

The individual blocks are 2 cm thick and 1-10 cm long.

This set is not only suitable for learning arithmetic. You can also play freely with the colourful blocks. Colourful buildings and walls can be created with the building blocks! The building blocks can be wonderfully combined with many other wooden toys from Grimm.

Play ideas with Grimm step counting rods

1. addition
Single step counting sticks can be represented by different addition tasks: a stick of 8 is always exactly as long or as high as 8 1s, as a 4 and two 2s, as a 5 and a 3 or, or, or ...

For each step counting bar, as many possible combinations of smaller bars are now searched for.

At the beginning, it makes sense to add only 1's for each counting bar, so it is easier to recount!

2nd addition
Pick out two rods that, when added, are still in the number range 10. Place them on top of each other and add 1's. How high is the tower? What is the matching addition task?

3. brain teaser
Arithmetic is especially fun when it is accompanied by stories.
Anna, Peter and Simon go to pick apples together... many have already fallen down. But the children still manage to pick some. Anna picks 3 apples, Simon 4 and Peter 2. Everyone takes as many 1's from the box as they have picked apples. Now the sticks are placed on top of each other and the matching counting stick is taken out of the box according to the height. How many apples / sticks do they all have in total? The story can be extended for older children. The apples are not picked, but bought in the fruit shop... 1 apple costs 1 €, 2 €, 0.5 €. How much do the children have to pay?

Many more learning games are possible!
